Pasture Select - Animals
Pasture Select is a unique aspect of GEM that allows you to create a set of animals from a location at your operation. You first have to create the locations on GEM (see Administration-Locations) and then move animals into those locations (see Batch Jobs-Change Locations). After the latter two operations are completed, when you click on Pasture Select you get the first screen shown below. This is a set up screen where you can identify the classes of animals (including embryos) that you wish to bring to a system location set. This is done via the check boxes on the screen. In this example the selection of animals from the location Express Ranches would be adults (animals with a weaning date or greater than 330 days of age) females (cows). As the screen is set below you would select from all the locations at Express Ranches which would be an unlikely selection. In most cases you would go to the location selection window which is accomplished by clicking on the link 'Click for selection window'. This will take you to the second screen shown below which is a pop up screen showing locations.

In this pop up screen the locations are expandable and retractable by clicking on the plus and minus signs. In this screen you select the location by clicking on the location name (you can select multiple locations) which show up just above the 'Cancel' and 'Submit' buttons (Shawnee River was selected in this example). Clicking the 'Submit' takes you back to the first screen but now Express Ranches is replaced by Shawnee River (see below)

In this screen the selection of animals will be be adult females (cows) from the Shawnee River location.

On clicking the 'Submit' in the above screen you are taken to the Reports screen (default) as seen below. Note the Animal Set (highlighted in blue) is a system set called LOCATION_SET. In this case the Pasture Select retrieved the 49 adult cows in this location. Note that you can go to any of the reports or other operations with this set such as Edit or Browse. This is a very efficient way of creating sets of animals you may be working with according to the locations where they may be physically located on the ranch/farm.
