Reports - Semen Inventory
GEM provides three semen inventory reports, each suited to a different purpose. All reports can be exported to HTML, Word (DOC), or Excel (XLS).
General Semen Inventory
Shows the current net inventory balance for each bull at each storage location. This is the primary day-to-day inventory view.
Filters: Select one or more bulls and one or more locations before running the report. Choosing "All Bulls" or "All Locations" removes those filters. Your selections are remembered for the session.
Columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Assoc | Breed association code |
| Prefix | Registration prefix |
| Reg No. | Registration number |
| Herd ID | Your internal herd ID for the bull |
| Name | Bull's name |
| Cane Code | Custom storage code from the bull's private record (e.g., "Tank 1, Cane 5") |
| Location | Storage location name |
| Total Semen | Net balance at that location (sum of all transactions) |
A variant of this report — General Semen Inventory with Comment — adds a Comment column showing the most recent transaction comment for each bull+location combination.
Bulls and locations with a net balance of zero are excluded from the report.
Column headers are clickable to re-sort the results.
Semen Totals
Shows the total semen balance for each bull across all locations combined, without a location breakdown. Use this report when you want a single number per bull regardless of where the straws are stored.
No filters are needed; the report shows all bulls with semen records for your herd.
Columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Assoc | Breed association code |
| Prefix | Registration prefix |
| Reg No. | Registration number |
| Herd ID | Your internal herd ID for the bull |
| Name | Bull's name |
| Cane Code | Custom storage code from the bull's private record |
| Total Semen | Net balance across all locations |
Bulls with a net balance of zero are excluded. Column headers are clickable to re-sort.
Detailed Sire Inventory
Shows individual transactions for selected bulls within a date range, along with opening and closing balances. Use this report to audit activity, trace when inventory changed, or reconcile physical counts against the ledger.
Filters:
- Bulls — Select one or more bulls, or choose "All Bulls."
- Beginning Date — Start of the transaction window (defaults to 01-01-1950, which effectively means all history).
- Ending Date — End of the transaction window (defaults to today).
Report Structure:
The report is organized by bull. For each bull, a summary header row shows:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Herd ID | Your internal herd ID |
| Name | Bull's name |
| Reg No. | Full registration number (association + prefix + number) |
| Start Qty | Net balance before the beginning date (opening balance) |
| End Qty | Net balance through the ending date (closing balance) |
Below each bull's header, the individual transactions within the date range are listed:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Date | Transaction date |
| Quantity | Signed quantity for that transaction (positive = add, negative = subtract or move-out) |
| Cow Herd ID | Herd ID of the cow, if the transaction was generated by a breeding record |
| Cow Name | Name of the cow, if applicable |
| Comment | Transaction comment |
Transfers appear as two rows (one negative at the source, one positive at the destination) sharing the same date and timestamp.
Column headers on both the summary and detail sections are clickable to re-sort independently.
